LW Men’s Golf League

A lovely morning welcomed 13 golfers of the Leisure World Men’s League to River View Golf Course on July 6. The skies were clear, there was no wind, and the expected Inland Empire heat did not set in until late in the round.

River View is a tricky 5,600-yard par 70 course that has the Santa Ana River running through the middle. With tees set back, large elevation changes and several gullies to be traversed, a challenging course becomes a difficult one. The golfers accepted the test and eight of the 13 golfers scored at or below net par with several low scores. The greens and fairways are always in excellent shape, and new golf carts have added to the enjoyment of the golfers.

There were five birdies—two by Jim Goltra, and one each by Gary Stivers, Fujio Norihiro and Steve Earl. Closest to the pin challenges were won by Earl on No. 2, and Goltra on No. 9. Sam Choi, Norihiro and Tom Ross had fewest putts for the round.

Net score equals gross minus handicap. A flight winners (handicaps of 1-19): Norihiro, first place; Choi and Dave LaCascia, second; Bruno Santillo, third; Goltra and Stivers, fourth; Earl, fifth; Clay Fisher, sixth; Chris Lankford, seventh.

B flight winners (handicaps of 20 and higher): Dom Bautista, first place; Sergio Borbon, second; Ross, third; Randy Massaro, fourth.

The league plays every Monday at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.
