LW Men’s Golf Club
Comfortable weather and no sun greeted 50 golfers of the LW Men’s Golf Club for the July 22 tournament. The 1,680-yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course was in great shape, and had been heavily watered due to the continued daytime high temperatures, adding to the humidity of recent days.
The golfers teed off starting at 7:30 a.m. with each man competing for best net scores, four circle holes and two closest to the pin challenges. With good weather and excellent playing conditions, it was not surprising that 23 of the 50 men scored net at or under par. There were 50 birdies and nine circle hole winners.
Closest to the pin on hole No. 1 was Trai Nguyen at 1 foot 8 inches, and on No. 10 it was John Kolthoff, also at 1 foot 8 inches. Average net score for the round was 55.2 or just more than one stroke over par. Low net score for the round was Bruce Bowles at 11 under par 43, followed by Alan Sewell at 7 under 46. Low gross for the round was Bill Lyons at 2 under 52, followed by Seung Lee and Young J. Kim at 1 under 53.
A flight winners (handicaps of 0-6): Seung Lee, first place; Fujio Norihiro and Young J. Kim, second; Kevin Childress and Bill Lyons, third; Kolthoff, Mike Mayfield, Trai Ngyuen and Dong On Kim, fourth; Bob Barnum, fifth.
