Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play with the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, Nov. 1. Regular tournaments are held the first three Saturdays of every month in the lobby of Clubhouse 6, with registration beginning at 10 a.m., along with treats and coffee. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

On Oct. 18 the club had another great turnout for the week’s game. Each week, big hands bring special prizes. This week, the high hand winners were Kathy Elliott (J-J-J-J-A), Renate Watkins (7-7-7-7-J) and Beth Methany (5-5-5-5-8). By playing and winning the promo hand of 10-5, Nancy Jordan won a prize.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Jeff Rolnick, first place; Dick Jones, second; Marvin Rolnick, third; Guta Basner, fourth; Nancy Jordan, fifth; Ray Lim, sixth; Maryanne Conte, seventh; Lem Hall, eighth. About 64 players started the game and play continued until the final table where Rolnick and Jones were heads up. In the last hand of the match, the flop came 5-Q-10. Rolnick was holding 9-10 and Jones was holding 8-J. Both were hands with possibilities. Jones went all-in and was called by Rolnick, with both players having a straight draw. The turn was a J giving Jones a bigger pair, but the river card was a K, completing the K high straight for Rolnick and giving him the win.

Rolnick has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the poker club for six years. This was his second final table win at a regular tournament. In addition to tournament poker, Rolnick plays pickleball and also likes hiking and spending time at the beach.

The club congratulates all of the week’s winners.
