Ruffy Ramos wins Mano Y Mano tournament

LW POOL CLUB

The LW Pool Club held its annual Mano Y Mano pool tournament on July 26. This was an eight-ball singles tournament limited to A and B level players.

There were 20 players in a double elimination format. This means that if a player lost the first game, they went to the loser’s bracket, and if they lost a second game, they were out of the competition. Before each game the players lagged for break. At the same time, the two players shoot a ball to the far rail and try to get their ball to bounce back and come as close as they can to the rail where they are standing. For professional players having the break in eight ball is a big advantage, but only a slight advantage for players here. Players had to call the pocket for every ball made, and if a player touched a ball it was a foul and their opponent got the cue ball in hand anywhere on the table.

In the third round, Paul Snellenberger beat Rusty Aquino and Ruffy Ramos beat Phouc Tran. In the loser’s bracket, Bruce Pettys beat Tran and Aguino beat Shellenberger. Aquino was the only player left in the loser’s bracket. That meant he had to win two consecutive games against Ramos, since Ramos had yet to lose a game in the double elimination format. Ramos was able to win the first game in their match and take first place. Aquino placed second; Shellenberger, third; Pettys, fourth; Tran, fifth.
