The LW Men’s Golf Club’s second tournament of the month was held Aug. 27. Fiftysix golfers teed off at 7:30 a.m. at the 1,680-yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. The weather was hot and humid with full sun for the entire round and barely a breath of a breeze that rose late in the morning. Hydration was very important.

Each man competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges.

The course was in great condition, with just a few impacted sprinkler heads in the fairways, and weeds on the No. 6 green. With good conditions, 25 of the 56 men scored net at or under par, and there were 75 birdies plus 10 circle holes.

Closest to the pin on No.

8 was Jae H. Lee at 1 foot 3 inches, and on No. 17 it was Bob Johnston at 11 inches. Low net score for the round was Mike Fennessy, 12 under 42; Terry Thrift, 46; Jack Haskins and Jae H. Lee, 47. Low gross for the tournament was Bob Barnum at 3 under 51; John Kolthoff, 2 under 52; and Ralph Koizumi and Mike Mayfield, 1 under 53.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): Barnum, first place; Kolthoff, second; Koizumi and Mayfield, third; Dennis McMonigle and Gene Archambault, fourth; Thomas Kim, fifth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 6-10): Jae H. Lee, first place; Alan Sewell, second; Kevin Lindstedt, third; Ron Steele and Jun Um, fourth; Kyo M.
