Suleeta Ann Smith 1940-2025
On the morning of April 29, Suleeta Ann Smith or “Grandma Sue” peacefully went to be with the Lord. She was predeceased by her husband, William, and daughter Gelene. She is survived by her five children (Brett, Jennifer, Bart, Jessica and Jilynn), and 11 grandchildren (Cody, Tyler, Grant, Tanner, Paxton, Maverick, Charlee, Ella, Abigail, Liam and Lucas). Suleeta was a committed Christian, devoted wife, and loving mother and grandmother. Her life was truly about others.
Suleeta was born on Oct. 4, 1940, in Los Angeles. She spent most of her childhood and adolescence in Lakewood, California. She attended St. Anthony’s High School in Long Beach, graduating in 1958. She loved her high school years and was a cheerleader as well as the homecoming queen her senior year. It was also during these years that she met her future husband, Bill Smith, and soon after high school, the two married and settled in Seal Beach, in 1966, where she spent the remainder of her life.
Suleeta spent her life devoted to her faith, her family and friends. A pivotal moment in her life was when she and Bill accepted Christ and became active members at the Long Beach First Church of the Nazarene where she enjoyed attending Bible studies, pursuing missions and teaching Sunday school classes for children. Suleeta was also an active member of Community Bible Study, where she spent many years leading and teaching classes for both adults and children. She truly loved others more than herself and was a model of servant leadership. While she will be missed, her legacy of faith and devotion will always be remembered by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 24, at Long Beach First Church of the Nazarene, 2280 Clark Ave. Long Beach, at 11 a.m.
