Tournament Poker Club
Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em, for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play on Saturday, March 1. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month and start with coffee/treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.
There were 49 participants ready to play an exciting game of Texas Hold ‘Em at the Feb. 11 tournament. High hand winners were: Larry Slutsky with a 4-8 spade flush and Roger Montero with 8-8-8-8-A. Chung He Scharschmidt won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 3-9.
As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Lonnie Ton, first place; Namil Shin, second; Roger Montero, third; Larry Slutsky, fourth; Kathy Segroves, fifth; Nita Doyan, sixth; Kathy Elliott, seventh. Play continued at the final table until Shin and Ton were head’s up. Holding J-10, Ton went all in before the flop and was called by Shin holding A-2. The flop was 9-7-A and Shin had a pair of aces, but Ton was drawing to a possible straight. Sure enough, the turn was an 8, giving Ton the straight and the river was a 5—no help for Shin.
Ton has lived in Leisure World for 11 years and been a member of the poker club for two years. This was her first final table and win. Ton plays poker in several groups here in Leisure World, and she also enjoys swimming.
The club congratulates all the winners.
