Emergency Information Council to provide CPR and fi rst aid classes

The Leisure World Emergency Information Council (EIC) will offer onsite American Heart Association certified CPR and first aid classes beginning Feb. 1. An important element in being self-sufficient and “On Your Own” during an emergency is having up-to-date life-saving knowledge and skills. The EIC has partnered with Marc Woodward, owner of Prime CPR Services, to provide hands-on training with real life exercises and simulations that provide a realistic learning experience.

Marc Woodward has 23 years of experience as a firefighter and paramedic. He has assembled a team of experienced healthcare providers to teach the most up-to-date life-saving skills. The first aid class starts with the basics and includes what to do for medical emergencies, injury emergencies and environmental emergencies. The CPR class includes performing high-quality CPR alone and with others, how to use an AED and how to help a choking victim, for example.

The classes will be held on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon in Clubhouse 3, Room 3. There is limit of 12 students per class but a minimum of 10 students is needed for each class. Due to lowerthan- expected interest, the classes scheduled for January have been delayed. The fee to the EIC for each class is $40. Students who want a related Red Cross certification card must pay an additional fee. CPR classes are now scheduled for Feb. 1, March 8 and 22, and April 5. First aid classes are scheduled for March 1, 15 and 29. Reservations must be made a week in advance by contacting EIC President Jackie Dunagan at 562-431-7479 or jackie919@gmail.com.
