Long Beach Fixit Clinic: July 11
The next Long Beach Fixit Clinic is Saturday, July 11, from noon-3 p.m. at Sports Basement Long Beach, located at 2100 N Bellflower Blvd.
People often throw things away when they stop working instead of attempting to repair them. Fixit clinics teach people how to fix things instead of throwing them away. Volunteer specialists will be on hand to help people assess, disassemble and attempt to repair items like electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles and other items. The events have a 69% repair success rate, according to the city’s Long Beach Recycles website.
This is not a drop-off and fix event—it’s a hands-on event where people learn to repair their items with the help of expert coaches. There is no cost to attend.
The clinics provide a workspace, specialty tools and guidance to help people take things apart and identify problems. Even if an item cannot be fixed, its owner can learn more about how it works and how it was made.
The clinic cannot accommodate requests to repair jewelry, small televisions, cell phones, tablets, printers, electronic screens or large appliances.
The clinic accepts walk-ins, but people are encouraged to preregister online at lbcity.info/fixitclinics.
