Learn drawing techniques from a still life master

The Leisure World Art League will meet Nov. 10 in Clubhouse 4 at 6 p.m. The meeting will feature a handson, still-life drawing workshop conducted by Southern California still-life artist Elizabeth McGhee. McGhee, who draws from pop culture, literary references and puns, explained, “through my still life paintings of toys, I examine how symbols are interpreted. My intention is not to promote a particular concept or ideal, but to inspire analysis and contemplation.”

During the meeting, people will create a still-life drawing using colored pencils and paper provided by the league. People are welcome to bring their own colored pencils. People will be guided through each step of the process under the direction of McGee. Her artwork can be viewed online at elizabethmcghee. com.

All residents and their guests are invited to take advantage of this opportunity to learn drawing techniques from a master. Cost for materials is $5 per meeting for non-members, or $25 to join the league and receive supplies for every monthly meeting. Snacks and drinks at each meeting are provided by Patti Kilian, an award-winning member of the Art League and real estate agent for Coldwell Banker Envision.

Members who want to display their work should drop pieces off by 5:30 p.m. During the meeting, people will vote for the “Most Popular” piece and the winner will receive a ribbon of recognition.

On Dec. 8, the league will hold its annual “Art in Bloom - Holiday Edition,” an intimate art exhibition featuring work created by league members. The event will be held in Clubhouse 4 and starts at 6 p.m. Food and drink will be provided by Gasper Monteer Realty Group, and live music provided by country rock band Abilene.
