Hawaiian dance club Hui O Hula welcomes everyone to its free hula lessons. No experience is necessary. Classes meet on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. in Clubhouse 6, upstairs Mirror Room, and Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Optum Health Care Center conference room, next to the pharmacy. With Christmas just around the corner, instructor Jojo Weingart has started a new lesson featuring the Hawaiian dance implements pū’ili (bamboo rhythm sticks), ‘uli’uli (feathered rattles) and ipu (gourd percussion) to the holiday favorite “Jingle Bells.”

Hui O Hula will hold a Christmas party for residents and their guests on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 1-3 p.m. in Clubhouse 4. Enjoy an afternoon of music, dancing and holiday cheer. To reserve an entire table for eight to 10 guests, arrange seating early.

The club wished happy October birthdays to dancers Susie Cucci, Nora Fredlund and Angie Zhou. Cucci, a Hui O Hula board member and one of its original dancers, is admired for her genteel manner, keen intelligence and sound judgment. Zhou, a hula baby/member since 2022, has blossomed into a confident, graceful dancer. Fredlund continues to inspire everyone with her cheerful spirit and love of life.
