Fun With Fashion Club

Self massage is the topic of the Fun With Fashion Club’s Nov. 9 meeting in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 6 p.m. Bring treats to share and a beverage of choice. RSVP by email to lwsbfashionclub@gmail.com.

The club will pick up where it left off in its August meeting, which featured a waxing demonstration by Sherri Coleman that was so interesting that the group never finished the massage portion of the meeting. The meeting will cover how to use various self massage tools. Massage stimulates circulation, which is good for the body. The club will also offer reflexology charts, which show specific pressure points that correspond to different organs, glands and systems of the body. Applying targeted pressure to these points can promote relaxation and relieve stress. Caring for the body is one of the main points of the club, which takes a holistic approach to fashion. “When you feel good, you look good,” is one of the club’s mantras.

Camille Dull will continue her discussion of the physical benefits of laughter and smiling. According to the Mayo Clinic, a good laugh has great short-term effects. When people start to laugh, it doesn’t just lighten their mental load. It causes physical changes in the body. Laughter can:

• Stimulate many organs. Laughter helps people take in oxygenrich air, which stimulates the heart, lungs and muscles. Laughter also increases feel-good chemicals called endorphins that the brain releases.

• Activate and relieve one’s stress response. A rollicking laugh fires up and then cools down the stress response. It also can raise and then lower one’s heart rate and blood pressure. As a result, people feel good and more relaxed.

• Soothe tension. Laughter can stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation. Both can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.
