Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore Canterbury
On Sunday, Nov. 8, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the 24th Sunday after Pentecost. Rev. Murray Finck will preside over the Holy Communion service at 13564 St. Andrews Drive in Leisure World at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to join.
Nancy Anderson will be this month’s prayer leader, and Carol Costello will be the reader.
People will meet in the Fellowship Hall after the service for coffee, tea, cookies and snacks.
The congregations are still collecting non-perishable food for those in need.
The first part of the congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, Nov. 8, right after the service.
Bible Study The Bible study will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from noon-1:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The group will continue its study in the “The Life, Ministry, and Mission of Jesus,” reading story from all four of the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The class will be augmented with episodes in season two of “The Chosen.” All are welcome to join and are encouraged to bring a Bible, lunch and a friend or neighbor. Operation Christmas Child
The congregation is assembling and collecting gift boxes for Operation Christmas Child, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse for worldwide distribution. Boxes and information pamphlets will be available at the back of the church and downstairs through the turn-in date on Nov. 12 (for more information, see page 10).
Gospel Lesson
The Gospel lesson for this week is from Matthew 25:1-13. In this passage, Jesus returns to parables. He reminds people that they do not know when he will return nor when they will be called home, so all believers need to be prepared at all times.
People cannot wait idle and believe that they have more time to prepare, pray, care, give, forgive, or love. No one knows when Jesus will return as he promised. This week, members of the congregation are encouraged to focus on the moments when they are preparing for the return of Jesus, especially as people are getting closer to Advent and celebrating Christmas.
