LW Orchestra
Leisure World Orchestra musicians spooked up the Amphitheater stage during its Oct. 26 rehearsal. Percussionist Shota Hanai was aptly costumed while rehearsing French composer Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Danse macabre.” The 1874 symphonic poem evokes Halloween, when the dead are freed from their graves to dance for a single night.
Trombonist Andrew Black, who created a gigantic gingerbread Clubhouse 2 for a 2025 concert, decorated the stage with a jack-o-lantern complete with cobwebs, and creepy-crawlies. Hanai and Black, along with approximately 50 other LWO musicians, will perform in the group’s first 2026-27 concert in Clubhouse 2 on Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. The concert will feature works by Mozart, Bach and Sibelius, along with several seasonal favorites.
