Community Church

Community Church will host a prayer and potluck event on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from noon-2 p.m. at 14000 Church Place. People are encouraged to bring a dish to share. This event provides a place for people to gather and celebrate the blessing of the season. There will be a time of unstructured prayer in the sanctuary and a ritual release for those who want to turn something over to God. Whether this season is a time for celebration or a time of deep reflection and concerned, all are invited to be part of this community event and connect with the divine source of love. People can call the church office at 562-431-2503 or stop by to sign up. Community Church meets every Sunday at 10 a.m. at 14000 Church Place for worship. All are welcome to attend.

On Sunday, Nov. 8, Community Church will begin the season of extended Advent. The church observes extended Advent—which is seven weeks instead of four weeks—to spend more time reflecting on the presence and power of the Holy Spirit leading believers into the advent of something new.

Community Church thanks everyone who participated in the All Saints Sunday remembrance on Nov. 1. It was a reminder of just how much change and transition people have experienced in the past year, and how much change is yet before them.

Many people these days do not experience organized religion as “the way of love.” Those who have left organized religion or were never a part of organized religion but may identify as “spiritual but not religious” are encouraged to stop by the church on Thursdays at 10 a.m. for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat about spirituality. This isn’t a Bible study; it is an opportunity for people to share their stories with like-minded people in a judgment-free space. Pastor Johan Dodge used to gather people in a gastropub around the question: “What if church didn’t suck?” This space is created for people to share their understanding of the Spirit, whatever that means to them. Community Church will hold these gatherings weekly through the season of Advent on Thursdays at 10 a.m. All are welcome.

Recently, the church received a generous but limited donation of women’s disposable protective undergarments (size XL). Those who are in need of some can come by the church.

People can join the Community Church Leisure World Facebook page to watch past sermons. Call 562-431-2503 for more information.
