Public Guardian presentation and resource event Sept. 23 in CH 4

Learn more about conservatorship at a Public Guardian presentation on Wednesday, Sept. 23, in Clubhouse 4 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. organized by the GRF Member Resources Office.

Senior deputies for the Orange County Public Guardian, Kim Swason and Suzette Smith, will give a presentation about their department’s services and answer questions about conservatorship.

A public guardian is a court-appointed government official or public agency that makes personal, medical and financial decisions for an adult who cannot safely care for themselves.

A conservatorship is a legal process where a third party (conservator) is given the legal authority to manage the financial affairs and/or the care of another individual (conservatee).

The Superior Court determines whether a person is unable to care and make decisions for themselves and whether a conservatorship is appropriate. Once appointed by the court, the Public Guardian assumes personal and/or financial responsibilities for care ofthe conservatee and their needs and assets.

Social services agencies will also be on site to provide information and answer questions, including Adult Protective Services, the Council on Aging, SoMang Society, Alzheimer’s OC, Pathways, 21 IOC, OC Health Care Agency, OC Fire Authority and the Leisure World-based Golden Age Foundation. No RSVP is required. Refreshments will be served.
