First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the holy Bible, verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

When reading the New Testament, a person might think that the Apostle Paul had been an avid follower of Jesus his entire life. That is far from the truth. Paul was born a Roman citizen. To quote him: “He was trained and advancing in Judaism and extremely zealous for his ancestral traditions.”

In those times, a man named Jesus had come to Jerusalem to preach about a different kind of relationship with God to his Jewish brethren. A relationship that was accessible to anyone that believed that Jesus was the Son of the God of Israel.

As a devout Jew, Paul refused the teaching of Jesus of Nazareth and after Jesus died, Paul thought of himself as one who must do many hostile things to the name of “Jesus of Nazareth.” Paul set out to lock up believers of Jesus and even cast votes to have them put to death.

So, what changed? He met Jesus. Despite Paul’s rampage against Jesus, he met Jesus as he traveled on a road. From that encounter, Paul learned of the grace, forgiveness and mercy that Jesus offered. Ultimately through Paul, the teaching of mercy, grace and forgiveness was taken to many parts of the world and that mission continues today.
