Shotgun scramble planned for July 29 tournament

July 15 greeted the 25 teams who competed in the month’s Guys and Gals tournament. A cooling breeze was present throughout the round, but it was warmer than usual. The teams of one woman and one man competed for best net scores, four circle holes, and two closest to the pin challenges.

The Turtle Lake Golf Course was in excellent condition, which allowed 19 of the teams to shoot at or below net par. Lowest gross score was 5 under 49 by Bill Lyons and CeCe Feltman. Best net score was 9 under 45 by Todd Chidester and Ann Tran.

Closest to the pin for the men on the eighth hole was Mike Mayfield, and on the 17th it was Noe Alcaraz; for the women it was Janice Turner and CeCe Feltman. There were seven circle holes and 44 birdies.

A flight winners (team handicaps 0-6): Lyons and Feltman, first place; Gene Archambault and Stella Yoon, and Mayfield and Nancy Tye, second.

B flight winners (team handicaps of 7-9): Chidester and Tran, first place; Ron Steele and Turner, second; Dennis Mc-Monigle and Bert Thompson, third; Alan Sewell and Lynn Baidack, and Young and Hae Lee, fourth.

C flight winners (team handicaps of 9-18): James Farr and Sue Sloan, first place; Walter Kim and Pam Smith, second; Yoon Sup and Young Sil Yoon, third; Alcaraz and Vivian Ceballos, fourth; Terry Thrift and Marilyn Hewitt, fifth.

The next Guys and Gals Tournament will be on Aug. 19 and every third and fifth Wednesday if there is one. The men’s tournament is played every second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Tee times for both tournaments are posted in the starter shack before the tournaments, and players are requested to check the list or contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909684-0426, or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.

The July 29 tournament will be a shotgun scramble with first tee time at 8 a.m. and a $10 entry fee. Eight to 10 teams of five or six golfers will compete for low gross score. The maximum number of players is limited to 54.

To sign up for either event, contact Men’s Club President Ron Steele at 559-905-3296 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 no later than Monday, July 27. Teams and starting holes will be posted on Tuesday, July 28. There will be a free barbecue picnic following the July 29 scramble starting at 1 p.m. inside Clubhouse 2 and the picnic area outside. All women’s and men’s club members and their significant others are invited.
