LW Pool Club has monthly tournaments in CH 2
On July 13, the LW Pool Club held its first ever straight pool partners tournament. It was planned that seven games would be played, with the first team making 15 balls the winner. Because the games ran longer than expected, only five games were played. Since this was the first tournament, it was a live and learn situation.
The pool board decided to use balls made by the losing team as a tiebreaker. So, the team with the lowest score would win the tie.
Ruffy Ramos and Guta Basner won their first four games but lost their last game. Also winning four of their five games were the teams of Roy Mittlestead and Brian Burke, as well as Paul Shellenberger and Brian Tivnan.
Ramos and Basner took first place with only 34 balls scored against them by their opponents. Mittlestead and Burke took second place with 40, and Shellenberger and Tivnan were third with 58 points.
The club has a monthly tournament, usually on the last Saturday of the month, in Clubhouse 2, at 1:30 p.m. The fall league will begin on Monday, Sept. 7, at 6 p.m.
The straight pool league moved into its third week. Big wins for the week came from Brian Burke, Barry Brideau, Linda Patton, Teri Nugent, Phouc Tran, Ruffy Ramos, and Steve Edrich. Play continues every Tuesday morning in Clubhouse 1 from 9 a.m.-noon. All residents are welcome to view the action.
Straight pool teaches new things about pool strategy. It’s a good game and there is straight pool for those who want to play it every week.
