Flood channel will be cleaned

WEST NILE VIRUS

The flood channel that runs along Golden Rain Road will be cleaned in the coming weeks to clear standing water, debris and vegetation that supports the proliferation of mosquitoes. The channel is regularly treated with larvicide every 10-14 days during mosquito season, according to OC Vector spokesperson Brian Brannon.

This year has seen a surge in mosquito activity fueled by invasive Aedes aegypti (“ankle biters”) that breed in tiny amounts of water and bite aggressively during the day.
