Joan LaCascia Memorial Tournament is June 13

SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB

The Shuffleboard Club’s Joan LaCascia Memorial Tournament is played every year and is limited to 24 players. The event is scheduled from 3:30-6 p.m. on Saturday, June 13. Participants draw for both their opponents and court location for each of two rounds of play. All regular shuffleboard rules apply with the exception of no shooting off the opponent’s disc. There are three cash prizes of $75, $50 and $25 for the highest scoring winners.

The board met recently and another open play session will be available Tuesday evenings for the month of July, from 6-8 p.m., in addition to regularly scheduled Monday open play from 9-11 a.m. throughout the summer months. This gives members who miss playing in leagues or new members a chance to practice a bit more during the recessed months.

There is always something going on in the Shuffleboard Club, both sports-wise and socially. At both the courts building and the June 1 general membership meeting, there were sign-up sheets galore for the LaCascia tournament, for fall league play, which commences on Sept. 15 and ends Nov. 20, and for the annual summer barbecue, slated for Aug. 8 at the Clubhouse 1 picnic area.

Tuesday, May 26 league results: Team Karen crushed Team Sally 10-2 and Team Sue was the victor over Team Jesus 8-4. All game winners were Sandy Bush, Anne Calvo, Mark Filohoski, Lynne Haines Judy Hulin, Karen Mendon and Heather Moore.

Friday, May 29 league results: Team Susan nosed out Team Rod 7-5 as did Team Shel vs. Team Patti 7-5. All game winners were Micki Aiello, Roger Bennett, Lee Broadbent, Mark Filohoski, Rod Osgood and Ellie West.
