Wa-Rite Club supports women managing weight

Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Fridays from 9-10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. For support on a weight-loss journey, women are welcome to stop by at 8:15 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.

On May 8, members learned that they lost a total of 17.5 pounds for the week. The week’s biggest loser was Joy Nasser, losing 6.5 pounds. Nasser said late night snacking is one of her challenges and opts for light popcorn to satiate cravings.

Members also participated in a spring weight loss competition between March 13 and April 17. Each member got a picture of a bonnet that they got to decorate. Every week, depending on results, they got to choose from a variety of stickers to decorate their bonnet. Winners were Joy Nasser, first place; Julie Cisneros, second; Judy Chambers, Jan Friedland, Henrietta Peavey and Betty Vanderwall, third.

The meeting ended with a presentation by Beverly Bender, who reiterated the importance of listening. She told mom jokes as well as quotes by famous mothers in celebration of Mother’s Day.

Food for thought: Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your day.
