LW Arirang Club LW Arirang Club

The LW Arirang Club meets Sundays from 5-8 p.m. in Clubhouse 6, upstairs in the Mirror Room.

The Arirang Club was formed to provide Leisure World residents the opportunity to experience Arirang while learning to play and enjoy the janggu instrument and drum.

Playing the janggu and drum helps participants improve muscle coordination, memory and cognitive function. It promotes movement, concentration and emotional expression while enjoying social interaction.

Participants express different emotions through playing soft, slow, fast or strong. Playing includes standing, sitting, marching, upper body extension and arm swinging in unison with the leader. Instructor Young Park lives in Mutual 15 and has over 30 years of experience in the instruments.

In the past two months, the club has grown from five to 23 members. The group is currently practicing to perform at the Golden Age Foundation’s Multicultural Festival (see page 11) as part of the Korean American team.

For more information, contact Young Park at 909-580-0590.
