Shotgun scramble tournament attracts 51 players
Fifty-one golfers from the Leisure World men’s and women’s golf leagues played in a special shotgun scramble tournament on April 29 at the Turtle Lake Golf Course. Nine teams teed off at 8 a.m. with the goal to have the lowest gross score.
The competition was friendly but intense, and team members loudly supported their teammates. Each team achieved a well-below-par score. Amazingly, of the 162 scoring opportunities, 66 were birdies and only three bogies or worse.
Winners: Alan Sewell (Captain), Terry Thrift, Ron Steele, Alison Kim and Sophia Kim, 13 under par 41, first place; Walt Kim (Captain), Trai Nguyen, James Choi, Grace Choi and Patty Littrell, 9 under 45, second; Dave LaCascia (Captain), Rolando Ramarez, Darry Holten, Marilyn Hewitt, CeCe Feltman and Liz Meripol, 8 under par 46, third.
Special thanks to Ron Steele for setting up the event and being the tournament director; to Bob Turner for bringing the doughnuts; Daniel Mahoney and Steve Walker for coffee setup and clean-up, and Chef Tony. Appreciation to starter Sue Elliot for announcing the tournament, and the maintenance team for their usual great job in getting the course ready for play.
The picnic that followed the tournament was well attended, and participants were treated to barbecued burgers, potato salads, chips, fruit, cold drinks and cookies and Hostess cupcakes for dessert.
