Art League will host multidisciplinary artist and hands-on workshop May 12
FREE ARTIST WORKSHOP: OPEN TO ALL RESIDENTS
Experiment with alcohol ink on ceramic tiles
The Art League will hold a free workshop on May 12 in Clubhouse 4 beginning at 6 p.m. and is open to all Leisure World residents.
The featured guest presenter is Leti Stiles, a multidisciplinary artist and facilitator with over 30 years of experience exploring diverse mediums including silk, acrylic, oil, mixed media and alcohol inks. Known for her engaging workshops and intuitive approach, she shares her passion for creativity throughout Orange County. She will give a hands-on workshop in the use of alcohol inks on ceramic tiles and Yupo synthetic paper.
Alcohol inks are highly pigmented, fast-drying inks that are alcohol-based. They are used on non-porous surfaces, such as Yupo paper, ceramic tiles and art boards. The inks flow and blend together, creating stunning and unpredictable effects. The dye provides the intense color, while isopropyl alcohol carries the dye onto the surface. The blending solution is used to dilute and blend the inks, creating different effects and textures in the artwork.
Made from 100% Polypropylene, Yupo paper is recyclable, acid-free, has a neutral pH, and is archival. It’s durable, waterproof, stain resistant, and resists buckling. With Yupo, people can get results that they can’t get on any other surface. People can create without worrying about mistakes, as they are easily wiped away, or covered over. The art can be stored by keeping it dry or fixing it with a sealant.
Funded by a grant from the Golden Age Foundation (GAF), this workshop is a rare opportunity to be personally instructed by a working artist in techniques to effectively use these two newer mediums.
Art League members may bring their own artwork for display at 5:30 p.m. and people will vote to select the “most popular” piece on display. A raffle for artwork donated by Stiles will also be available. Proceeds from the raffle will assist the league in its overarching purpose to support and promote the arts and artists within Leisure World through art education and community exhibitions.
Now is the time to submit applications for Art in Bloom, the Art League’s annual fine art exhibition. Sponsored by the GAF and Gasper Monteer Realty, Art in Bloom will feature artwork created by Leisure World residents in Clubhouse 3 on June 20 from 4-7 p.m.
Interested artists can pick up an Art in Bloom application in the GRF Recreation Office in Building 5 or request an application via email at lwsb.artleague@gmail.com.
