First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine” Romans 1:12.
Pastor’s Message
This week’s message in Romans 15 begins with foundational teachings. First, in verse 4, “Whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.” The Apostle Paul was not writing about secular literature, but about writings by men who God chose to record the truths of who he is and what he wants for his church. Paul had previously written in the book of Timothy that “All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching.”
In Romans 15:5 Paul explains further: “Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The Scriptures teach his church to be of one mind and to come together to praise and give glory to God. Without the Scriptures and without unity, churches will lack the following found in verse 13: “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Weekly Services
Sunday services are held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. and are traditional with hymnal music led by Janet Ray with Sherry Parmenter at the piano. Ray will bring the special music this week.
Saturday services held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. include contemporary songs of worship, led by Gregory Black with guitar and vocal accompaniment.
Midweek Studies
Melli Herrera leads the Monday Bible Study from 10:3011:30 a.m.
Pastor Bruce Humes leads the Thursday Bible Study from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and the Friday Prayer and Bible Study from 4-5 p.m. All are welcome to join any service or midweek study.
Scripture of the Week
“Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary. Let everything that has a breath praise the Lord” Psalm 150:1 and 6.
