Sunshine Club
Dr. Davis Woodworth, PhD will speak to the Sunshine Club on Friday, April 17, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 10 a.m.
Woodworth is a project scientist in the Department of Neurology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), where he specializes in using brain imaging (MRI and PET) to study dementia.
He earned his PhD in Biomedical Physics from UCLA, where he applied advanced imaging techniques to study a range of neurological conditions, including brain tumors, chronic pain, and spinal cord disorders. Since joining UCI, Woodworth has focused on improving how scientists detect and understand different forms of dementia by integrating brain imaging with clinical assessments and neuropathology.
His current work centers on Limbicpredominant Agerelated TDP43 Encephalopathy (LATE), a recently recognized condition that can look very similar to Alzheimer’s disease but is caused by a different underlying process. LATE affects memory and thinking in older adults and is more common than many people realize.
In this talk, Woodworth will explain what LATE is, why it matters, and how it differs from Alzheimer’s disease. He will also discuss practical ways to support brain health as people age and share information about a UCI research study aimed at improving diagnosis and developing future treatments for LATE.
All residents are welcome to join this meeting. The Sunshine Club requires no membership fees, but donations are welcome. Refreshment will be served.
