LW Men’s Golf League

Sixteen golfers and a guest of the LW Men’s Golf League met at the Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach on April 6. The players were greeted with an overcast, cool and damp morning with a slight wind. The greens had been punched and sanded the week before and were recovering. Accordingly, the “two-putt” rule was instituted, meaning if a player landed on the green, they could take two putts or putt it out and take their chances. This contributed to some low scores and seven birdies—three by Jim Goltra, and one each by Ron Jackson, Sam Choi, Steve Earl and Bruno Santillo.

Thirteen of the 16 golfers shot net under par with several very good scores. Closest to the pin on the 150-yard par 3 seventh hole was Scott Slade, and on the 150-yard 16th hole was Larry Hillhouse. Goltra had fewest putts for the A flight, and Tom Ross had fewest in the B.

Net score equals gross minus handicap.

A flight winners: Dave LaCascia, 6 under, first place; Goltra, 5 under, second; Clay Fisher, 4 under, third; Hillhouse, 3 under, fourth; Gary Stivers, 2 under, fifth; Sam Choi and Jae Choi, 1 under, sixth; Earl, seventh; Santillo, eighth.

B flight winners: Randy Massaro, 7 under, first place; Won Park, 4 under, second; Dom Bautista, 3 under, third; Bob Munn, and Scott Slade, 1 under, fourth; Ross, even par, fifth; Jackson, sixth. The league plays every Monday at four local courses. Advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter.

Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
