The LW Community Emergency Response Team (LW CERT) wants LW residents to ask themselves these questions: “Have you ever been in a situation where you were without electricity for longer than a day?” and “How would you cook, light, heat and cool your home and keep your devices powered up?”

Residents can learn ways to cope without power at the May 22 LW CERT safety class in Clubhouse 3, Room 9, starting at 9 a.m. Residents will find out how to utilize batteries, fuel and solar along with cooking a meal with candles. Those who have batteries that might not be fully charged can bring them to the class to be tested and learn about power banks and battery boxes.

At the March safety class, LW CERT President Catherine O’Brien showed attendees the basic operation of two-way radios and the difference between types of radios available. LW CERT Vice President Fara Q. Macartney and two members of the LW Amateur Radio Club demonstrated using radios in an emergency scenario and provided valuable information regarding FCC licensing and radio etiquette.

The giveaway for March was an AM/FM emergency radio, won by Rachel Fullum.
