All welcome to enjoy hula showcase on April 18 in CH 4

HUI O HULA—HAWAIIAN DANCE CLUB

Hui O Hula, Leisure World’s Hawaiian dance club, invites everyone to Clubhouse 4 on Saturday, April 18, for an afternoon of music, hula and island-style fun at the club’s ho‘ike hula show and island rock dance party.

The program begins at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1:30, and seating is first come, first served. There will be plenty of tables and chairs available in the clubhouse.

This year’s theme is “O‘ahu Serenade: Hula and Songs Celebrating O‘ahu,” followed by a tropical rock dance party with Barefoot Wahine and friends. Featured musicians include Carrie Kumabe, Diana Pemstein, Chris Wright, Ron Hom, Pete Kahele and Craig Wilson, leader of Leisure World’s musical group Coconut Breeze.

The afternoon will begin with about 40-45 minutes of exhibition hula. After the ho‘ike, everyone will be invited onto the dance floor for a cheerful show-andtell hula session. Hui O Hula instructor Jojo Weingart will offer a little explanation, a little demonstration, and then invite everyone to try dancing together. No experience is needed. Residents are welcome to come watch, come smile, and, if the spirit moves them, join in. Hula has room for everybody.

Live music throughout the afternoon will include Ron Hom, Pete Kahele and Craig Wilson. Kahele is a well-known Hawaiian musician whose beautiful traditional steel guitar sound adds true island flavor. Later in the program, Barefoot Wahine will take over with tropical rock music for dancing and good fun. Barefoot Wahine has been part of Hui O Hula’s world through the years.

Shaved ice will be available for purchase from new vendor Haole Boys Shave Ice.

The event is open to all Leisure World residents and their guests. Whether someone loves hula, misses Hawai‘i, enjoys dancing to live music, or simply wants a happy afternoon out, all are welcome.
