Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Fridays from 9-10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. For support on a weight-loss journey, women are welcome to stop by at 8:15 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.

On Oct. 23, the club lost 11 pounds with Joy Nasser as the best loser. She lost 2 pounds by eating more protein at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nasser said it isn’t easy to eat like that all the time, but when she does, it shows.

Club President Judy Chambers talked about the importance of valuing old friendships and making new ones with age. She noted that quality matters more than quantity and that good friends can boost each other’s happiness, memory and health. Chambers encouraged members to surround themselves with caring, positive people and invited them to share what keeps them upbeat outside of Wa-Rite meetings.

The weekly food for thought was: “It is never too late to make new friends. Good friends might be your best brain booster as you age.”
