Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore Canterbury
On Sunday, July 26, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the ninth Sunday after Pentecost at 10:30 a.m. The Holy Communion service is held at 13564 St. Andrews Drive in Leisure World with Rev. Murray D. Finck presiding. All are welcome to join.
People are welcome to join after service for fellowship in the Fellowship Hall for coffee, tea, cookies and snacks. The congregation will also celebrate the July birthdays this week.
The congregations are still collecting food for those in need.
On Wednesday, July 29, the Bible study will feature the series titled “The Life, Ministry, and Mission of Jesus.” It will focus on the story from all four of the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. In addition to the lessons, the group will watch episodes from the made-fortelevision series “The Chosen.”
People can meet on the first and third Mondays of the month to help the congregation prepare crafts and for the next holiday bazaar. The next meeting is Monday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m., downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. There will be planned projects with directions, and all the materials provided at the meeting.
The gospel lesson this week is from Matthew 13:31-33, 4452. In this passage, Jesus makes five quick comparisons of what the kingdom of God is like. He touches on the most common references for the people: plants, baking, a farmer, a merchant, and a fisherman.
Jesus goes on to explain what these various people are willing to do in relation to the “kingdom” item. Jesus uses what people know and understand to teach. This message is a continuation from last week with the final explanation that the angels will sort people at the end of time.
People teach from what they know and understand. It is how they live their lives, love one another, and forgive others. Words and actions that help build the Kingdom of God. These are the treasures that Jesus looks for.
