PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY

The GRF Recreation Department is co-sponsoring a new study with Pepperdine University to examine how seniors view and utilize technology. Leisure World residents are encouraged to participate.

Dr. Doreen Shanahan and Dr. Jillian Alderman, social science researchers at Pepperdine University, are conducting a study regarding the use of technology to support independent living.

Technology can impact people’s ability to remain independent in their own homes in a variety of ways. It can act as a daily companion—whether through video calling family or streaming favorite shows. Others view technology as a vital partner, using assistive technologies such as smart speakers and wearable health monitors. On the other hand, many find modern tech frustrating, intrusive or simply unnecessary.

The research team invites residents to share their views—whether they love tech, hate it, or simply ignore it—to help them understand the range of personal views related to using technology.

Participation is easy. To fill out the survey digitally, use a smartphone camera to scan the QR code on page 2. When a link appears on the screen, tap it to get started.

The survey link was also sent out via LW Live. People can sign up to receive LW Live email alerts at www.lwsb.com/ lw-live. Paper copies are available at the Recreation Office in Building 5. The researchers will attend the March

SURVEY, page 2 Velvetones and Vinyl Rock dances to allow people to fill out surveys in person. Responses will be kept anonymous.
