First Christian Church

First Christian Church teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, verse by verse. It is a friendly church, joining in worship and exploring God’s word together, “That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

This week’s message is from Romans 13: 8-14. In these verses the Apostle Paul moves from his admonition to be in subjection to the governing authorities to saying, “Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.”

This was written to the believers in the church as a reminder that God’s law instructs Christians of moral excellence. But, to achieve that they must “Love your neighbor as yourself” while remembering that “Love is the fulfillment of the law,” (Romans 8:10).

Jesus taught this on many occasions. One occasion was during the Last Supper. Jesus began to wash the feet of the disciples, when Peter objected, Jesus said, “For I have you an example that you should do as I have done for you” (John 13:15).

In Romans 13:11, Paul adds, “Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now, our salvation is nearer to us than when we first believed.” There is an urgency in this admonition. Do not delay church. Recognize that the time to awaken from slumber, to put the foolish things of the world aside and put on the wisdom of Jesus Christ.

Weekly Services

Sunday services are held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. and are traditional with hymnal music led by Janet Ray with Sherry Parmenter at the piano. Sharon Graves will sing special music.

Saturday services from 9:3010:45 a.m. include contemporary songs of worship, led by Gregory Black with guitar and vocal accompaniment.

Midweek Studies

Melli Herrera leads the Monday Bible Study from 10:3011:30 a.m.

Pastor Bruce Humes leads the Thursday Bible Study from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and the Friday Prayer and Bible Study from 4-5 p.m.

All are welcome to join any service or midweek study.

Scripture of the Week

“But let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things, declares the Lord,” Jeremiah 9:24.
