The Friends of the Library Bookstore is holding a half-price sale of classics. Some studies show that reading classics boosts brain power, so if that appeals or just the simple joy of reading excellent writing is enough, the Friends of the Library Bookstore is the place to shop. Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 17, all classics will be on sale for half-price, 50 cents for hardback and 25 cents for paperbacks. All of the books will be on the patio in the black book cart.

Thanks to a generous donor, the sale will include a number of Harvard Classics which can be purchased individually for 50 cents or all the remaining books will be sold together for $10. These books are in excellent condition and would make a fine holiday gift for anyone who enjoys great literature. Another donor donated a number of Agatha Christie detective stories by one of the masters of the craft, all paperbacks, which will be sold for 25 cents each or $5 for all. The Friends of the Library’s collection also includes some of the works of Charles Dickens, James Joyce, John Steinbeck and other great classic writers, as well as poetry by various artists.

It might be time to read or re-read some of the great writers of the English language, and taking advantage of this sale would aid in that pursuit. The bookstore is open weekdays from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., closed Tuesdays and Sundays, and open Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Belinda Kelly (l) of Mutual 15 and Peggy Tierney (r) of Mutual 8 browse through their next classic read.
