Paving will impact St. Andrews Drive starting today
GRF ANNUAL PAVING PROJECT
Paving in CH 3 and 4 parking lots will coincide with Nov. 3 power outage
Leisure World’s streets are being refreshed as part of GRF’s annual paving repair project, now well underway throughout the community. This work includes a combination of asphalt repairs, crack fills and slurry seals.
The following projects are ongoing or expected to begin soon:
• Light road work at St. Andrews Drive north of the traffic light began Oct. 22, but major impacts to the roadway will begin today, Oct. 30. Traffic in north- and southbound lanes will be affected. The repairs are expected to last through mid to late November.
• On Monday, Nov. 3, crews will conduct crack fill and slurry seals around the LW Library and clubhouses 3 and 4, mainly in the parking lots and on the North Gate exit road. This work was scheduled to coincide with a Southern California Edison power outage in the area to minimize impact to residents. Work is expected to be completed that day, but a small amount of equipment may still be present on Nov. 4. Understanding asphalt repair
On streets where crack sealing is necessary, crews will apply hot, rubberized asphalt sealant into visible cracks to keep out water and debris, which can cause long-term pavement damage. This preventive technique is used when the roadway is still in good condition.
Once cracks are sealed, some areas will receive a slurry seal, a surface treatment that restores the pavement’s appearance and durability.
A slurry mixture of asphalt emulsion, fine aggregates such as sand, water and other additives is spread evenly over the roadway. The slurry forms a barrier between the asphalt and the elements and prolongs the road’s lifespan.
Drivers should exercise caution in repair areas, as heavy equipment and construction crews may be present.
Regularly paving and resurfacing asphalt is the best way to ensure the long-term durability and lifespan of a roadway.
Crews and heavy machinery were stationed the Clubhouse 2 parking lot and car wash area on Oct. 13 during an initial phase of the asphalt repair project.
