Shed the old mindset for weight loss
WA-RITE
Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.
On Oct. 10, members learned that the club lost a total of 21 pounds in the past week. The biggest loser was one of the club’s newest members, Nancy Sheets, with a 7-pound loss. She said that she ate less, walked more and planned out her meals ahead of time. Club members also found the truth in a proverb shared by Linda Rich: “Early to bed, early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise.” This proverb is attributed to Benjamin Franklin from his “Poor Richard’s Almanack.” He believed that a disciplined sleep schedule and early rising lead to a successful life and promoted good health, productivity and time for reflection.
Rich said that going to sleep late was linked to a greater risk of developing diabetes, hypertension, obesity and other health issues. If hungry late at night, she said that a light snack such as banana, a few whole grain crackers or almonds would be okay to have. Rich also said that walking in daylight, limiting screen time and late dinners could all promote better sleep.
The weekly food for thought was: “Your life is as good as your mindset, put on your positive pants.”’ —Jan Friedland
