Master the mind-bodyconnection for weight loss with Wa-R
ite Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.
On Sept. 19, members learned that the club lost 12.5 pounds in the past week. Jeanette Williams and Karen Green tied for the biggest loser title with a 2-pound loss each. Williams said that she stopped eating after 5 p.m., and Green credits her weight loss to tricycling around the community with her dog Texas Claire.
Jan Friedland spoke about the homeostatic set point theory, and why people can’t keep the weight off after going on a diet. She said that the body has a natural weight range—a set point. If the weight gain or loss happens too quickly, the body will fight this change. Whereas a 5% weight change and its maintenance for six months can allow the body to reach its new set point.
Friedland added that losing one to two pounds a week is the way to go. Plus, making lifestyle adjustments like weight training or exercising in general, and eating fiber-rich foods over time will result in long-term success.
Besides having fun every Friday, members always enjoy the meetings’ closing time with either Joyce Brannon or Bev Bender sharing a humorous story or a joke.
For example, last week, Bender said that she is never lonely because she now has four men in her life. She gets up with Charlie Horse, spends the day with Arthur Itis, dines with Will Power, and goes to bed with Ben Gay.
The weekly food for thought was: “Your body achieves what your mind believes.”
