LW Men’s Golf Club
An overcast but humid morning greeted 49 players of the LW Men’s Golf Club tournament at the Turtle Lake Golf Course on June 11. Each man competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin holes. The course remained relatively dry, and it was hoped that would translate into good scores, and there were a few very low net scores. However, only 23 of the 49 men scored net at or under par. There were 56 birdies plus 12 circle holes.
Closest to the pin on hole No. 8 was Ralph Koizumi, and on No. 17 Pat Paternoster was closest. Low net score for the round was Bill Zurn at 11 under 43, followed by Steve Kang at 7 under 47, and five others at 5 under 49. Low gross for the tournament was Bill Lyons (handicap of 0), 5 under 49, followed by Bob Johnston at 1 under 53.
Average net scores: A flight (17 players): 55.8 strokes; B flight (16 players): 55.3 strokes; C flight (16 players): 56.5 strokes.
A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): Lyons, first place; Johnston, second; Dave LaCascia and Paternoster, third; Fujio Norihiro, Koizumi, Seon Kim, Bob Turner and Bruce Bowles, fourth; John Kolthoff, fifth; Bob Barnum, sixth.
B flight winners (handicaps of 6-11): Rod Osgood and Bud Young, first place; Hyon Shin, Terry Thrift and Won G. Park, second; John Rudosky and Trai Nguyen, third; Young Lee, fourth.
C flight winners (handicaps of 12-18): Zurn, first place; Kang, second; Mark Tal and Noe Alcaraz, third; Kevin Lindstedt, fourth; Mike Carlson, fifth; James Choi and Marv Jones, sixth.
The next men’s tournament is on June 25. As there have been a number of no-shows for the last few tournaments, players who are scheduled or plan to play in any tournament and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 as soon as possible. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.
