Turn your weight loss goals into action with Wa-Rite
Wa-Rite is a femaleonly club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh-in and complete the registration paperwork.
On May 9, members learned that the club lost 14 pounds for the week. Ellen Larsen and Sharon Van Sickle tied for the biggest loser title, losing 2 pounds each.
Kathy Moran, who has been a member of Wa-Rite for 12 years, reached her goal weight and kept it off for the past five years. She won $2 and said: “It pays to lose!” Moran added that the club members’ unconditional support plus rooting for each other every Friday helps everyone to stay on track.
The club’s Decorating our Bonnets contest, which ran from March through May, had four winners.
Shirlene Bradrick won $25 as a degreed member. Another member who chose to remain anonymous was a top winner and received $25 for a 6-pound loss. Ruby Resnick got first place and $15 for a 4-pound loss. Karen Green was second with a 3-pound loss, winning $10.
The speaker of the day was Bev Bender. She talked about use of cucumbers outside of salads. She said that a slice of cucumber can defog a mirror and add a spa-like scent to the bathroom; get rid of grubs and slugs in the garden; lubricate a squeaky door hinge; and help with bad breath after a meal if pressed to the roof of the mouth. Bender also added that skin of a cucumber may erase a typo in pen-written text, or crayons and markers on the wall when grandkids color outside the lines.
The weekly food for thought was: “Motivation, determination, dedication and destination.”
