Board president will hold listening and learning sessions

GRF President Jeff Mulqueen is hosting three informal Listening and Learning sessions in September.

He is committed to enhancing collaboration and healthy governance within the Leisure World community by providing these inclusive pathways for communication. The agenda for the meeting is quite simple: participants share those things that are important to them, including areas for improvement, expectations, and new ideas. He recommends coming to the meeting having reflected on the question, “How can the Golden Rain Foundation better support the Mutual, my club, or residents of Leisure World?”

Mulqueen conducted these meetings last term for residents in Mutual 1 and found them very productive. “Residents shared their thinking and came away from the meeting saying they felt satisfied that they had been heard and that their ideas may contribute to our community,” he explained. When those elected to represent residents in governance matters engage in two-way communication with residents, they validate resident input and cultivate mutual respect. Mulqueen encourages more listening as a way of promoting unity throughout the community.

“Issues facing every community are complex and the more we listen to each other, sharing different points of view and new ideas, the greater our ability to solve problems that come our way,” he said.

Mulqueen is working toward more equitable decision-making and a more cohesive community to strengthen effectiveness and residents’ satisfaction. Information that he gathers at each meeting will be shared with the entire GRF Board of Directors and Leisure World community, but to clarify, these are not official GRF Board meetings, and no board business will be conducted. These sessions are for the sole purpose of strengthening communication pathways.
