LW Women’s Golf Club
April Fool’s Day brought 33 women to the Turtle Lake Golf Course. Play for the weekly ninehole tournament was low gross, low net and circle hole on No. 2.
Sophia Kim landed her ball in the circle on No. 2 green. That accomplishment rewarded her with $1. Each week players can win $1 for low gross or low net and whatever the game is that week. The week of April 7 will be birdies. The following week is putts. It gives each woman a chance to win back her $30 a year dues or at least part of it. The overall idea is to have fun and meet new people. Some take golf very seriously. On the other hand, some just enjoy the game—whether they play well or not doesn’t matter.
A flight winners: Sophia Kim, 26, low gross; Judy Kim, 23, low net.
B flight winners: Keiko Sekino and Carmen Daeley, 23, low gross; Mary Ann Moore, 26, low net.
C flight winners: Sun Lee, 30, low gross; Laura Garcia, 26, low net.
D flight winners: Neve Senske and Sue Elliott, 35, low gross; Jane Kors, 26, low net.
For those wondering what a flight is, here’s an explanation. Each woman establishes a handicap by playing so many rounds. Women are grouped into flights according to their handicap. The lower score one has, the lower the handicap. Flight A, for instance, are women with handicaps up to four. Par for the course is 27. If one has a four handicap and shoots 31, the gross score is 31. The net score is 27.
