Learn about women’s health, weight loss and more on Fridays in CH 3
WA-RITE
Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by.
At the Dec. 20 meeting, members learned that the club lost a total of 16 pounds that week. Most of the credit went to Shirley LaBrecque, who lost six pounds by watching what she eats.
Pat Miller spoke about surviving a heart attack when alone. She said people feel weak and experience a high heart rate during the heart attack, and only have about 10 seconds before losing consciousness. She added that coughing repeatedly and taking deep breaths in between could boost the blood circulation and provide oxygen to the heart and lungs. Those steps should be repeated, if a person is conscious, until the medical help arrives. Miller said that women may have additional symptoms, such as indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line, and sudden fatigue. They rarely have a chest pain or pain in the arms like men do.
The weekly food for thought was: “The holidays are not about food, but connecting and sharing a good time with others.”
