First aid and CPR classes coming starting Jan. 11
EMERGENCY INFORMATION COUNCIL
The Leisure World Emergency Information Council (EIC) will offer on-site American Heart Association certified CPR and first aid classes beginning Jan. 11. An important element in being self-sufficient and On Your Own during an emergency is having current life-saving knowledge and skills. The EIC has partnered with Marc Woodward, owner of Prime CPR Services, to provide hands-on training with real life exercises and simulations that provide a realistic learning experience.
Marc Woodward has 23 years of experience as a firefighter and paramedic. He has assembled a team of experienced healthcare providers to teach the most upto- date life-saving skills. The first aid class starts with the basics and includes what to do for medical emergencies, injury emergencies and environmental emergencies. The CPR class includes performing high-quality CPR alone and with others, how to use an AED and how to help a choking victim for example.
The classes will be held on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon in Clubhouse 3, Room 3. There is limit of 12 students per class. The fee to the EIC for each class is $40. For those students wanting a related Red Cross certification card there is an additional fee. First aid classes are scheduled for Jan. 11 and 25, March 1, 15 and 29. CPR classes are scheduled for Jan. 18, Feb. 1, March 8 and 22, and April 5. Reservations must be made a week in advance by contacting EIC President Jackie Dunagan at 562-431-7479 or jackie919@gmail.com.
