Get free, unbiased Medicare education and counseling at upcoming meetings

Medicare open enrollment season began Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7, with changes applied on Jan. 1, 2027. This is an opportunity to review your health and prescription drug coverage and make changes for 2027.

One source of free, unbiased information about Medicare is the state-supported Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP), which provides personalized Medicare education and counseling to help beneficiaries understand plan changes, and explore options that may better meet their healthcare needs and budget.

They can provide guidance on Medicare Parts A, B, C and D; supplemental plans; and prescription coverage. HICAP does not sell, promote or endorse insurance products.

Residents can take advantage of three upcoming events with HICAP representatives in Leisure World.

LW Lions Club: HICAP presentation and group session The LW Lions Club will sponsor a presentation by HICAP on Friday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. in Clubhouse 2. The event willfeatureapresentationandinperson group session designed to help people understand their options and make informed decisions about their coverage.

••• Impaired Vision & Hearing Club: HICAP guest speaker HICAP representative Beatriz Nunez will share information about Medicare changes coming in 2027 with the Impaired Vision & Hearing Club on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 1:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. People with vision and hearing disabilities are welcome to attend with a caregiver or spouse.

••• GRF Member Resources: HICAP informational clinic with individualized help The GRF Member Resources Office has organized a HICAP Medicare Open Enrollment Informational Clinic on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 2.
