On May 22, approximately 40,000 people had to evacuate due to a chemical leak in Garden Grove. Some people remained evacuated for 2-5 days as a precaution based on wind and thermal temperature conditions to avoid residents breathing potentially hazardous vapor. Now is the time for residents to know how to take care of themselves in the event of a disaster.

The Emergency Information Council (EIC) thanks everyone who had an interest in Leisure World emergency preparedness and attended the first Emergency Tabletop Exercise on May 7.

Due to the complexity and amount of the material, plus the event’s end of survey results, the EIC will address some questions and clarify the information from the previous event on Friday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m.-noon in Clubhouse 4.

During the meeting, the group will go over:

• How to help others in an emergency and “On Your Own”(20 minutes)

• Review Part 1: Emergency Operations Center (EOC), plus time for questions (10 minutes)

• Part 2: How Boots on Ground functions with EOC (30 minutes)

• Breakouts for Boots On Ground Emergency Scenarios (45 minutes)

• Questions and answers and survey feedback (15 minutes)` The EIC is building and adding materials to the red packets, so those who have them should bring them to the meeting. Those who did not get a red packet will get one at the meeting. However, it will not replace packets that have already been distributed.

The EIC asks retired or working first aid, emergency medical technicians, nurses, doctors, and therapists to attend the meeting and RSVP as soon as possible, so it can plan appropriately. Doors will close at 10:10 a.m. to reduce disruptions.
