LW GENEALOGY CLUB

All residents are invited to the LW Genealogy Club’s regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. Coffee time starts at 9:30.

This month’s featured speaker is Barbara LeClair, who was officially was bitten by the genealogy bug as a teenager when a distant cousin compiled and shared a family history on her dad’s line. She has been researching and making discoveries ever since. LeClair has been a member and volunteer with the Topeka, Kansas Genealogical Society for many years, where she has served in a variety of capacities.

Many people have family stories or beliefs that they may have a Native American connection somewhere in their tree and want to know more about it. Researching and proving or disproving those connections can be challenging. LeClair will share some hints for where to start and what to look for in trying to determine if one’s family member really did have Native American blood.

Amatuer and first-time genealogists are invited to join the club on the first Thursdays of each month for a short class and discussion on genealogy basics. Club membership is not required to attend. The class begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Genealogy Library in Clubhouse 3, adjacent to the lobby. For more information or to RSVP, email lwgenealogy@gmail.com.

The club holds Theme Thursdays, which are short learning sessions or discussions on genealogical topics, from 1:30-2 p.m. on Thursdays in the Genealogy Library.

The Oct. 22 topic is “Most Haunted Places,” and the Oct. 29 session will be a Halloween party.

The Genealogy Library is currently open Monday-Friday from 1-4 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; closed Sunday.
