Two new groups join Battle of the Bands
GRF WEEKEND DANCE SCHEDULE
The Golden Rain Foundation sponsors weekend dances with live music throughout the year. Below is the schedule for November, including two new debuts from groups competing in the GRF Battle of the Bands. The competition helps GRF gauge the popularity of performing bands in an effort to decide which group to add to the weekend dance schedule.
• The Velvetones Ballroom Dance Orchestra: This is Leisure World’s own professional big band, playing big band swing and jazz standards. The group returns to Clubhouse 4 on Sunday, Nov. 1, and again on Nov. 15 from 6-9 p.m. Doors open at 5:30. This month the performances are sponsored by Ivy Park of Cerritos.
• Bad Dad Blues: Bad Dad Blues is the latest entry into the “Battle of the Bands” competition. The band will perform Saturday, Nov. 7, in Clubhouse 1 at 6:30 p.m. The group of dads performs in Southern California and rock ‘70s and ‘80s classic rock and blues. Their high energy style ranges from Aerosmith to ZZ Top and will keep people out on the dance floor. Their set includes music from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Santana, Bob Seger, Grateful Dead, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more. As part of the GRF “Battle of the Bands” competition, attendance at their performances will determine if GRF keeps them coming back, so be sure to sign in and share feedback with the Recreation Department.
•Vinyl Rock: GRF’s original classic rock band will perform Saturday, Nov. 14, in Clubhouse 4 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome but guests must be accompanied by the resident who invites them. They’ll be performing each second Saturday except December this year and start half an hour earlier than previously. The music goes till 9 p.m. This dance is also sponsored by Ivy Park.
• Barefoot Rider: This band is also joining the GRF dance lineup for its first time, debuting on Nov. 21 in Clubhouse 1 from 6:30-9 p.m. Doors open at 6. Hailing from Orange County, Barefoot Rider delivers a highenergy celebration of classic rock and country rock built around the unforgettable music of the 1970s, ‘80s and beyond. From the Eagles, Tom Petty, Mavericks, and Dwight Yoakam to the country-rock classics that helped define the Southern California sound, Barefoot Rider combines great songs, strong musicianship, rich harmonies and an irresistible dance-floor beat. They are competing in the Battle of the Bands, so be sure to sign in.
• Abilene will perform Halloween night, Saturday, Oct. 31, at Clubhouse 4, starting at 7 p.m.
