Hui O Hula, the Leisure World Hawaiian dance club, welcomes everyone to enjoy music and the aloha spirit while learning to hula. Classes are held Tuesdays at 1 p.m. in Clubhouse 6, upstairs in the Mirror Room, and Thursdays at 1 p.m. in the Optum Health Care Center conference room, next to the pharmacy. Instructor Jojo Weingart welcomes dancers of all levels. Comfortable clothing is recommended. Dancing barefoot is preferred, but socks or soft booties are also acceptable.

Christmas cheer is already filling the dance floor as the club rehearses holiday favorites like “Winter Wonderland” and “Christmas on the Isles.” On Saturday, Dec. 19, Hui O Hula will celebrate Christmas at Clubhouse 4 from 1-3 p.m. with Hawaiian music, hula and holiday cheer. All are welcome. Groups of more than eight are encouraged to call or text 562-338-1502 to reserve a table.

With Halloween coming up, dancers have been learning a hula interpretation of Michael Jackson’s famous “Thriller.” Oct. 31 brings birthday celebrations for Hui O Hula dancer Mee Jung McPartland, affectionately known as MeeMee, and her husband Richard. Married for 25 years, the couple has called Mutual 7 home for nearly seven years. Friendly and outgoing, MeeMee enjoys meeting people, while both share a love of music and a strong Christian faith. Richard enjoys fishing and playing the ukulele with the Aloha Club. Hui O Hula sends warm birthday wishes to both, wishing them continued happiness, good health, and many wonderful years together.

Birthday couple Richard and Hui O Hula dancer Mee Jung "MeeMee" McPartland, both of whom were born Oct. 31, share a playful moment at the Optum Health Care Center, which is decorated to the nines with Halloween decor (see page 17) .
