Trip to Rancho Los Alamitos is Oct. 29; tickets on sale now

LW GARDEN CLUB

On Thursday, Oct. 29, Garden Club members will tour Rancho Los Alamitos with a docent. The tour is $35. The bus will depart at 9:30 a.m. and return at approximately 1:30 p.m.

After, the group will visit Bixby Village Plaza for lunch, which offers eight different restaurants. For more information or to purchase tickets, call Elaine Lee at 714-365-9367. ••• The club’s monthly plant sale will be held Nov. 16 from 12:301:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 2. A variety of potted plants will be available for $4-$20. Shoppers do not need to be Garden Club members or attend the club meeting that follows at 1:30, but everyone is welcome to stay for it.

The guest speaker will be Dr. Mary Jaeger Greer, who will present a program on “Organic Square Foot and Companion Gardening.” Greer developed a passion for gardening as a child visiting her grandmother, who taught her how to grow vegetables and flowers. She holds a Ph.D is in molecular biology. Although she has been busy teaching science and math classes at high schools and colleges for many years, she has always kept her hands in gardening, even taking advanced classes to become a Master Gardener.

Now retired, she and her husband moved to Leisure World in 2014, where she continues to feed her passion by maintaining two 10’x10’ plots in the Leisure World Community Gardens.

The WE CARE table will be set up in the lobby for donations of non-perishable food items, gift cards and cash. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.
